THE
VINEYARD |
| VOUVRAY A.C.
: the appellation area
covers eight parishes : Sainte
Radegonde ( nowadays part of the city of TOURS ),
ROCHECORBON, VOUVRAY, VERNOU SUR BRENNE, PARCAY MESLAY, CHANCAY, NOIZAY
and REUGNY over about 2,000 hectares (5,000 acres) with an annual
production of 100,000 hl .
The soil is either claying chalk or clayish silicate. The two types of
soil, well drained are easily warmed and are eminently suitable to the
production of a wine of
high quality. Cellars have been dug out of the TUFFEAU and these are now used to
prepare the sparkling wines or to age the still wines. |

| GRAPE VARIETIES |
|
Only one variety is allowed for the production of the wine
of VOUVRAY A.O.C. : the
Pineau de la Loire or CHENIN BLANC. CHARACTERISTICS
OF THE WINES The white wines of VOUVRAY
can be either still or sparkling. The still VOUVRAY can be dry
( SEC ), medium dry ( DEMI-SEC ) or sweet ( MOELLEUX )
Serve them at 8 -10 ° C.. The VOUVRAY tends to sparkle naturally. Today, it is this tendency wich is developped to produce the sparkling wines by the Champagne methode (2d fermentation in the bottle during 9 months minimum). The sparkling VOUVRAY
can be dry ( BRUT) or medium dry (DEMI-SEC).. The
sparkling VOUVRAY will be served at
8° C. as an
aperitif or with sweet dishes or to celebrate any happy occasion. The motto of the VOUVRAY wines is :
« I’ll warm the
cockles of your heart . » |
